Video: How To Get an IRS EIN for Your Restaurant

July 17, 20120 Comments

Hi I’m Attorney Tawfiq Ali, with Ali Law Practice LLC. We help restaurant owners solve legal problems, so they make more money.
Today I’m going to talk to you about getting an EIN—that stands for Employer Identification Number. Any business that has employees or operates as a corporation, limited liability company, or partnership needs an EIN, so that includes your restaurant. You’ll need the EIN for tax returns and withholdings, bank accounts, loans, and sometimes licenses.

But before you apply for a new EIN, make sure you don’t already have one. If you think you might have one, but don’t remember it, visit our website at chicagorestaurantlaw.com/ein, where we link to the IRS site that can help you locate it.

When you are ready to apply for an EIN, beware of any website or service that charges for obtaining an EIN. Getting an EIN is free and easy. The IRS offers four ways to apply for an EIN. You can apply by mail; you apply by fax; you can apply by phone; and finally, probably the easiest way, you can do it online. Please go to our website at chicagorestaurantlaw.com/ein for links and more information. And, if you haven’t done so yet, sign up for our free video series for more tips to help you and your restaurant make more money, save more money, and avoid legal trouble.
